GMST, a family of hip hop artists from Texas, recently released a fresh single showcasing the many talents of its diverse musicians: SMB NU5, Superstar KP, and Lil Dirty.
With over 336k views over the past few weeks, “Uh Uh” is taking off and launching the artists at GMST to new heights. “Basically, the song is about doing something different. We have different styles combining, trying to build a legacy for where we at. We want people to know that no matter where you from around here, we can come together and make some money. Luxury, having fun, females, and getting some money—those are things everyone can relate to around here.”
To create the single, “Uh Uh,” the family got together after hearing the beat. “PMR came up with a masterpiece so we all got on it. The song was recorded on a phone first. Then we started messing with it and went on to professional writing and we were done. It did what it did,” shares GMST.
GMST is a family with over 20 artists across 13 cities that began in 2014. “We represent one of the biggest counties in Texas. We made one big label to push everybody and help our county out,” tells the group. GMST stands for Get Money Stay True, “Stay True, because in this industry, you can get money every day but it’s hard for people to stay true to themselves and family. That’s what matters to us—our families. We build men to be bosses and change the stereotype of what’s going on. We’re for everyone, not just for ourselves.”
According to GMST, “PMR—a group made up of 16 to 18 year olds—is part of the family. Lil Dirty can fit in any category you can dream of. He’s going to be a hot artist, I can promise you that. SMB NU5 came to the group two years ago and faced all types of adversities with his hood. But he believed in us and us in him.”
SMB—which stands for Self Made Boss—came from the cornfields of Texas and focused on growing his music over the years. “I was thankful they brought me in as a family to make me better as a man and artist,” adds SMB NU5. “It ain’t just about the music. PMR is a great group. We all support it as one.”
The artists within GMST are not only diverse in their sound but also their influences. “We listen to all genres—country, rock, rap. The only thing we don’t like is heavy metal. Being an artist, you have to be able to expand your horizons. We do R&B music. We get on rock & roll. Whatever moves the soul, we all about it. We don’t want to be put in a category—we want to be put in all of them.”
“These guys are the family,” adds GMST. “We got a group of good guys with their head on right. We put them all together to make this hit song. We perform together every time at every show. If you book one of us, you book all of us. Everyone’s going to hit the stage if you book each artist individually.”
In the next few months, listeners can expect a new album to drop. “We gone be the first people taking music seriously from our country—we want to show our county you can do it if you put your head into it. We’re from a small town. We big but small. We want to let the world know it can happen for small towns.”
