Upcoming 100: What is the inspiration behind your music, and how do you hope your fans will connect with it?

Bennie Murray: Life is my inspiration. Life can be a challenge sometimes maybe there’s a verse or two that in my music that will make them feel everything is going to ok. Inspire them to keep fighting.
 
Upcoming 100: Can you tell us about your songwriting process? Do you have a typical approach or do you like to experiment and try new things.

Bennie Murray: I start with a rhythm, could be guitar, cello, piano depends on the target for the day. It could be Film/tv music, Pop, Hip-Hop I always start with the rhythm. I like to experiment, trying new things. I think that helped me develop my sound witch is important to me.
 
Upcoming 100: Who are some of your biggest musical influences, and how have they impacted your sound?

Bennie Murray: George Clinton, the funk, rhythm. Billi Holiday, Minnie Ripperton Lauryn Hill and Rihanna you feel what they are singing. That’s what I want my fans to feel. Hit me up Rihanna I have some tracks for you LOL!

Upcoming 100: What's the most important lesson you've learned as a musician, and how has it helped you grow as an artist?

Bennie Murray: Believe in yourself and learn the business. Keeps you from being taking advantage of.
 
Upcoming 100: How do you approach your live performances? Do you have any rituals or pre-show routines that help you get ready?

Bennie Murray: I’m a Songwriter/Composer/Drummer. I don’t do live shows as a artist. When I’m drumming for a artist I listen to Heavy Metal Music on the way to the venues, that’s my routine. Gets me pumped up.
 
Upcoming 100: What's the most challenging part of being a musician, and how do you overcome those challenges?

Bennie Murray: Knowing the right people that can open doors for you. Net working you have too put yourself out there. let people know you exist.
 
Upcoming 100: Can you tell us about some of your favorite songs or albums that you've worked on? What made them special to you?

Bennie Murray: Black Rock Coalition “History of our Future” Founder Vernon Reed guitar player for Living Color. It was nice to see black rock artist getting recognition. We received press from CNN, touring it was a good ride. Andy Allo singer/songwriter. I recorded drum tracks for her album “Fresh” we played shows around Sac, Bay Area and LA. She moved to LA and started working with Prince. Amazing artist! Sila, was another artist I worked with from Kenya. I also did drum track for his album “ Black President” We toured Italy twice and won an award for World Beat Music with NAACP. Just a fun project.
 
Upcoming 100: How do you stay inspired and motivated to continue creating music?

Bennie Murray: Do you have any specific habits or routines that help keep your creative juices flowing? The love for what I do. No habits, the fulfillment I get from music is amazing. 
 
Upcoming 100: What's the most rewarding part of being a musician, and how does it make you feel when you see your fans connecting with your music?

Bennie Murray: Hands down it’s the fans. There’s nothing like feeling the energy when you walk on stage

Upcoming 100: How do you balance your creative pursuits with other aspects of your life, such as personal relationships or business responsibilities?

Bennie Murray: It’s hard sometime but I do my best. Being a musician is not like having a 9 to 5. You have to make time for family. 
 
Upcoming 100: Can you tell us about any upcoming projects or tours that you're excited about? What can fans expect from these new releases?

Bennie Murray: I’m working on a short film for director Scott Betty at Razzano Effects. Thinking about releasing another Album in July. I have three albums the I released on all major platforms.
 
Upcoming 100: What advice would you give to aspiring musicians who are just starting out in their careers? What's the most important thing they should know about making it in the music industry?

Bennie Murray: Stay true to your art and learn the ins and outs if the business.
