Holly Lovelady Interview

Holly Lovelady releases her new single Oreanne, a heartfelt track that blends emotion, gentle melodies, and poetic storytelling.

Liverpool-based folk-pop artist Holly Lovelady has just shared her newest single “Oreanne,” marking another chapter in her deeply personal musical journey. The track blends heartfelt emotion, delicate melodies, and poetic lyricism while encouraging women to embrace strength and courage in challenging relationships. Inspired by a true love story, “Oreanne” tells a moving tale of heartbreak and vulnerability, stirring powerful emotions and memories.

Produced by Bob Mackenzie at the renowned Motor Museum Recording Studio, known for its work with Jake Bugg and Arctic Monkeys, “Oreanne” brings a fresh electro-pop edge to Holly Lovelady’s folk-rooted sound. Her previous release, a Christmas cover of “A Spaceman Came Travelling,” caught the attention of original songwriter Chris De Burgh and received strong support from BBC Merseyside, Lancashire, and Cumbria.

We had the opportunity to talk with Holly Lovelady and learn more about this meaningful new release.

So, what's up Holly? What's on your mind right now?
Erm... This interview! Haha!

Tell us everything about your new single ‘Oreanne'.
Oreanne is a song about love, heartbreak and the illusion that love can put you under. It’s a true story and I wanted everyone to hear and relate to the song. We have all been “Oreanne” at some point! Broken hearted when the person you love doesn’t love you back. It breaks us but we come back a better version of ourselves than before.

When did you start writing music and singing?
I started when my mum bought me a old school piano when I was 14 for £50 she said “if you want to learn...play” so I taught myself and started to play around with lyrics and melodies. The first song I wrote was a song called “ The tailor of Kendal” but before that I was performing in musicals so I guess I started singing when I was 9.

We really liked the music video. Talk a bit more about it.
I wanted to show me as myself in the music video and then show a darker and more mysterious Oreanne. I guess I’m sort of narrating the song in the
music video?! It’s a simple vision I think and Vessel studios in Liverpool helped me bring that to life.

Who are your musical icons?
Fleetwood Mac! Adele! Dorris Day! And my grandad!

What was the first album you purchased?
Rumours by Fleetwood Mac

Which artists are you listening to right now?
Alec Benjamin! I really love his music.
I think his songwriting is amazing and his voice is so easy on the ear!

How would you describe your fashion style?
Oooo! Well I love a cool looking coat! Cool coats are my thing haha!

What does the rest of 2021 hold for you?
Hopefully it holds good things! I believe it does!
More new music is coming and I’m performing at 42 Degrees festival in July so I’m really excited for that. It's my first festival.
