Morgan Taylor Drops Bold New Anthem “Outside That’s Periodt”

Morgan Taylor is a St. Louis-born singer-songwriter and Berklee College of Music graduate whose music blends gospel roots with contemporary R&B.

St. Louis, MO — Remember the name Morgan Taylor because you will see it again. The rising R&B artist has released her latest single, “Outside That’s Periodt,” a fearless declaration of independence, empowerment, and self-love. The track, born from a personal experience during her junior year of college, is a celebration of stepping outside toxic relationships and into confidence.

“I was talking to this guy and discovered that I really did not like him,” Morgan recalls. “As soon as I got in the studio, I realized, ‘This is it.’” The song captures that universal moment when it’s time to leave behind what no longer serves you. “The whole point of ‘Outside That’s Periodt’ is you’re in your cuffing season in the fall, and then summertime hits, you're outside and lovin’ it” she explains.

Though its message is fiery, Morgan insists the track is not about toxicity. Instead, it’s an anthem of joy and freedom. “It’s mostly about the ability to be by yourself, and not staying with somebody that doesn’t share the same love for you,” she says. “It’s mainly being with your friends or by yourself hanging out and having a good time...choosing pleasure over pain. It’s one of those “type” of songs. Being brave enough to love on yourself!”

“‘Outside That’s Periodt’ is you standing on business,” she says. “By the end of a relationship, you realize you are the prize. That’s how I want females to feel after listening to my music. It’s meant for you to be uplifted.”

Her message resonates especially with young women navigating the tension between expectations and personal freedom. “I just want young girls to know that it is okay to walk away from something that’s not healthy,” she says. “And to know that you’re not the only one who goes through this stuff. There are a trillion other females who endure this. It’s okay to love yourself before you can love anybody else.”

That blend of attitude and vulnerability is central to Taylor’s songwriting process. “Anytime I write a song, it’s from my journal. My perspective of life or what my friends are going through,” she states. “It’s really just being able to express my feelings.”

“Outside That’s Periodt” also channels her bold alter ego, Big Mo. “I feel like everybody has that alter ego, and Big Mo is mine,” she explains. “Big Mo is spicy. She stands on business. She’s the extrovert to the introverted Morgan Taylor.” That duality between the sweet, grounded “baby girl” she was raised to be and the outspoken woman she is becoming is at the heart of her artistry.

Morgan’s smooth yet commanding vocals reflect her roots in gospel music. At nine years old, she performed her first church solo and soon after began training that led to her debut gospel EP, Yes, Jesus Loves Me, at just 11. In high school, she transitioned into R&B while keeping her gospel foundation intact. Later, she honed her craft at Berklee College of Music, a 2025 graduate, studying under acclaimed instructors. “College taught me that the main thing is to just be myself,” she says of her Berklee experience. “You can learn from others, but be influenced by them but can’t be anyone but you. I’ve also learned to keep making connections and stay focused because college can be full of distractions...partying, dating, and just being in a major city like Boston. It helped me grow up and get focused.”

Morgan has definitely been focused. Her debut EP Love Bombed (Love, Loss and Lessons), which was released in January 2025 and has already surpassed 1.5 million streams on Spotify. She is also working hard perfecting her craft. She has received vocal training from the esteemed vocal coach Romeo Johnson whose clients include Queen Latifah and Avril Lavigne. Morgan has also been working with renowned choreographer Sai Nairobi, her clients include Ciara and Ne-Yo, perfecting her stage presence and dance moves.

Her aspirations extend beyond music. Morgan envisions building her own label to support local talent in her hometown of St. Louis, while also exploring ventures in fashion and live event production. “I want to make people feel seen,” she says. She dreams of performing on the Grammy stage and even pursuing acting, but no matter where her career takes her, her message remains consistent: “You are the prize. You are that girl. Love yourself. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Don’t lose who you are, and always stay true to yourself.”

With “Outside That’s Periodt,” Morgan Taylor delivers a soundtrack for self-assurance, sisterhood, and unapologetic joy. The single marks another milestone in her rapidly growing career as she continues to establish herself as one of R&B’s most promising voices.
