Funk Flex Addresses Role Following End of Hot 97s "Ebro In The Morning"

Funkmaster Flex, Ebro Darden, Peter Rosenberg, Laura Stylez, and the Hot 97 team have experienced significant shifts in recent weeks.

When up-and-coming cartoonist Keef Knight has a traumatic run-in with the police, he begins to see the world in an entirely new way.

Despite earlier reports, it appears that Hot 97 still has not named a permanent replacement for Ebro In The Morning. Funk Flex addressed the speculation directly on social media, confirming that while he is filling in tomorrow morning on Monday December 15, it is not a long term move.

As noted by The Jasmine Brand on Instagram, Flex responded to a post from the station’s Instagram Story that teased “Flex In The Morning.” Funkmaster Flex clarified that his appearance is temporary and not a sign of a permanent shift. He also took a moment to praise Ebro Darden, Peter Rosenberg, and Laura Stylez, acknowledging the impact and longevity of their work at the station.

“I’m only doing one day! Easy!” Flex wrote on his IG Story before expanding further in an Instagram comments section. “So we are clear! I’m only covering tomorrow only! (One day) @oldmanebro @rosenbergradio @laurastylez you guys have been so amazing in the hardest city in the world! Ebro u was my boss for years your passion for the music and dedication to the radio game is unmatched! I love you and I’m going to miss u! We been to war together when no one would stand with us! I plan on discussing that tomorrow!”

With Funk Flex stepping in and several other changes happening at Hot 97, there is still a chance that this brief morning appearance could turn into something more consistent. For now, however, it remains unclear what direction the station will ultimately take during this period of transition.

What Happened To Ebro In The Morning?

Ebro Darden has spoken openly about the cancellation of Ebro In The Morning, suggesting that his progressive political stance may have clashed with the priorities of Hot 97’s ownership and broader corporate interests. Regardless of the exact reason behind the decision, not everyone has reacted negatively to the show’s end.

Drake, in particular, acknowledged the news by posting a hatchet emoji on Instagram, a move that many viewed as a nod to his long running tension with Ebro and Rosenberg. The two radio personalities responded with dismissive remarks of their own. Given Funkmaster Flex’s history of supporting the 6ix God, it remains to be seen whether he will touch on that dynamic during his time on air.
