Lindsey Buckingham believes revisiting Fleetwood Mac’s history has allowed him to repair his relationships with the other Fleetwood Mac members, especially Stevie Nicks.
During an interview with E! News published Thursday, Aug. 6, the guitarist said working with his former bandmates on an upcoming Fleetwood Mac documentary has become “a very circular healing process for all of us.”
“Because we had left things in 2019, maybe as far as I was concerned, not in a very good place for all the wrong reasons,” he explained, referring to the dispute that resulted in his removal from the band several years ago. “No one was happy about it, and all of that has been healed and worked out.”
Buckingham and Nicks have endured a famously difficult relationship throughout their careers, but he now says, “Stevie and I are talking all the time now.”
The conversation took place during Variety’s Power of Young Hollywood gathering in Los Angeles. It comes almost two years after Apple revealed plans for an authorized Fleetwood Mac documentary directed by Frank Marshall. The production will include rare reflections from the group’s surviving members. No official premiere date has been confirmed, although the film is expected in 2027.
Buckingham and Nicks also reunited last year to reissue their 1973 record, Buckingham Nicks. The album climbed to No. 3 on the Top Album Sales chart in September. Their renewed partnership demonstrated how much their relationship has improved since 2018, when Fleetwood Mac removed Buckingham before beginning its tour. Nicks was reportedly the leading voice behind that choice after Buckingham allegedly wanted the tour postponed so he could first support his solo career. Their dispute reportedly intensified that January while preparing for the MusiCares Person of the Year ceremony honoring the band, and Buckingham was dismissed less than one week later.
Buckingham subsequently sued Fleetwood Mac, claiming he had been unfairly excluded from the tour and lost millions of dollars in income. The band reached a settlement with him in December 2018, and the disagreement now appears to have been resolved.
“Next year should be a pretty interesting year,” Buckingham told E! while hinting at more activity involving his former bandmates. “I think quite a few things will reveal themselves.”
