Diplo has revealed that he became a father for the fourth time after welcoming his first daughter roughly one year ago.
The producer shared the news through an Instagram post uploaded on Aug. 14, which featured photographs from a family holiday in Peru. One picture shows Diplo carrying a young child whose face is hidden behind a red heart emoji. In the extended caption, he revealed that “my daughter celebrated her first birthday with llamas wearing sunglasses.”
The post marks Diplo’s first public acknowledgement of his daughter and his first female child. He also has three sons: Lockett, 15, and Lazer, 11, whom he shares with former partner Kathryn Lockhart, along with Pace, who arrived in 2020 with model Jevon King. Diplo has not publicly shared his daughter’s name or identified her mother.
Other pictures from the trip show Diplo’s father, Thomas Pentz, and his son Lazer visiting Machu Picchu, Rainbow Mountain in the Andes and several additional locations across Peru. Explaining why he made room for the holiday, Diplo wrote, “This trip didnt fit anywhere in my schedule so I just tore it [sic] up the calender [sic] because I’ve missed things before telling myself there’d be a next time. there isn’t always.”
Reflecting on the achievements of the Inca civilisation, he continued, “What gets me about the incas is that nobody told them it was impossible,” he continued. “no wheels, no shoes, some bulls–t uncooperative alpacas, no iron, no writing. They just eating corn, potatoes and guinea pig. and they cut stone the size of a car and set it so tight you can’t get a knife between the joints, dragged them halfway up a mountain. five hundred years ago. the churches the spanish built on top of them have cracked. the inca walls are still there. They had a very large idea of what was possible.
Sharing another personal moment from the journey, Diplo wrote, “dad asked a shaman if he’d find love again since my mother passed which is not a question i’ve ever heard him ask out loud. It was the vulnerable thing I’ve ever heard him say.. my daughter celebrated her first birthday with llamas wearing sunglasses …Lazer couldn’t find peru on a map a week ago and walked out of the airport in a poncho and an alpaca hat looking like he been selling ayuasca [sic] to backpackers .. watching your kid become someone new in real time is the whole thing.
“i always have a lot on,” added Diplo, whose career has produced seven entries on the Billboard 200 and eight tracks on the Billboard Hot 100. “But id rather lose sleep with my family then at a club or a rave this summer.. happiness is all just moments we collect and some of them sit at 15,000 feet, listening to a band play Los mirlos on a train to Cusco. The Shaman told my dad in Quechua that hes got love all around him . I fell asleep on the floor in my son’s lap in this old library where we passed around Guinea pig bones and coca leaves. But now its time to get back to work, this trip was worth reaching even thought it’s hard to reach.”
