Princess Anne is a singer songwriter and keyboardist who takes a no-holds barred approach to making music that tantalizes the senses. Creating it with her collaborator guitarist Steve Shredder, the two of them work symbiotically. Her song, “Eternity,” is a direct example of their collaborative prowess as it showcases her undeniably trained vocal range and how well it pairs with the kaleidoscope of sounds on the production. “Eternity” comes from the album Amphitrite Rising, one of two albums she’s released this year.
Princess Anne crafted “Eternity” around the perspectives of what a “perfect man” would be from several different women. Across the midtempo shimmery pulse pumping track, she captures the feeling of being with that perfect man forever. It’s a track that showcases the siren-like qualities of her voice and Steve Shredder’s guitar playing and just how effective their symbiotic relationship is.
Releasing two albums in one year is not unheard of, especially in this current musical landscape, but it is still a challenge for the artist who does it and all those involved with every step of the process. Princess Anne released her albums Phoenix Crest and Amphitrite Rising this year, both in collaboration with Steve Shredder. She wrote most of the former while in Greece, being directly inspired by tales and legends she was surrounded by. She wanted to keep these stories alive through the music she made.
“I felt intuitively it was the right time to release both albums. It’s like the songs themselves wanted to be out. When the inspiration is there, you do it.” she said.
Her commitment to the music stems from her background as a gymnast where she also strived to be the best and practiced self discipline. The overlap of these qualities has pushed her to continue making music not only because she loves it but because it’s a skill she knows she will continue to excel and get better at.
Guitarist Steve Shredder is a longtime collaborator of Princess Anne’s and was integral to both albums. She says his guitar work truly shines when he’s doing an interlude and that sometimes she’s pleasantly surprised by the result of their collaborations. She described his playing poetically, describing just how much power it has in her eyes and ears.
“Brilliantly speaking a hundred words where no words are spoken at all.” she said.
Princess Anne also plays instruments with the keyboard being her favorite. She calls it the soul behind everything she does musically. Additionally, just like her Greek inspiration for Amphitrite Rising, she loves being inspired by the instruments she hears in different countries. By not knowing what sounds she’ll hear but being open to all of them, she maintains a sense of intrigue as she travels.
A human connection is a throughline in all of Princess Anne’s music. Like the aforementioned Amphirite Rising album, much of her inspiration for songwriting comes from depicting the different points of view people have and the overlapping passion they all have for what they believe in. By capturing these ideas, she hopes to depict their authenticity and their truth, just as they have lived it. With this in mind, she feels a strong sense of fulfillment when people tell her that her music has resonated with them.
