Police have confirmed that a 17 year old girl died during the early hours of Sunday, August 2, while attending Kendal Calling festival.
Cumbria Police said the teenager experienced a medical emergency at approximately 2am on Sunday. Emergency workers attempted to assist her, but she was declared dead at the location.
In an online statement, the force confirmed that officers were investigating what happened. They are hoping to hear from anyone who was close to the Calling Out tent and Big Wheel when the incident occurred.
A representative said: “Officers are particularly keen to speak with a group of women who alerted first responders to the girl after becoming concerned for her welfare.”
Police confirmed that specialist officers were helping the teenager’s family after notifying them of her death. The public was also urged to avoid speculation because it could have a “significant impact” on those closest to her.
“We would ask that the investigation be allowed to take its course.”
A representative for Kendal Calling confirmed that festival staff were assisting the authorities with their enquiries.
“As soon as the individual became unwell, they were immediately attended to by our on-site security and medical teams,” the spokesperson told The Independent. “Paramedics and medical personnel provided emergency care at the scene and did everything they could to help.”
The representative said everyone involved with the festival was “deeply saddened” by the teenager’s death and offered their “deepest sympathy” to her family and friends.
