Lyia Meta is a singer, songwriter, and visual artist from Malaysia who sees her music as a painting. Her colors are her words and the musical arrangements around them, ensuring each element flows and blends together to form a complete musical picture. Her latest single, “Raging Halls,” finds her in the rock lane, with intentional elements from other genres creating a cinematically captivating atmosphere.
The song “Raging Halls” was written with purpose and intention, as Lyia wanted to capture the emotional arc from which her recent work has emerged. Within this one, she tells a story of coming to terms with situations in life and turning hesitation into action. She hopes listeners come away with a sense of relief when they hear it.
“This song is about what comes after you are liberated from the pain, anger, and emotional wreckage you went through. It’s about when something shifts internally and you decide to move forward,” she said.
Lyia is an artist with a wide range of musical ideas, which she shares with her listeners. She has explored adult contemporary, jazz pop, and blues, often blending elements of these styles within a single song. She has a clear vision in her mind with every song she crafts, and she’s thankful that her longtime producer, Bob McGilpin, understands it every time. This song combines rock and orchestral elements, blending with powerful, emotionally charged vocals from Lyia, ensuring the listener is fully immersed in the experience.
The song “Raging Halls” was born from a track that came from the framework of E.G. Holmes, which Lyia transformed through collaborative efforts with Holmes and Bob McGilpin. Composed and lyrics by Lyia Meta, with E.G. Holmes as co-composer for the original framework track. She says the song would not exist without Holmes, and that his original track was the spark that led to the fire the song became. Additionally, Lyia takes pride in her personal and vulnerable songwriting throughout all of her music. She puts every piece of herself into the work, sometimes wondering if she may be sharing too much, but is reassured by the connections people make to her music every time.
“Whether I am writing prose or lyrics, I am always finding ways to put my thoughts down. I write because I want to share the viewpoints and experiences I have had. I think these things and what I have experienced internally are worth sharing because people can relate to them. I know sometimes my lyrics come from a dark place, but I always offer a sense of hope or a silver lining within them too,” she said.
Hailing from Malaysia, Lyia has performed both locally and internationally. She continues to connect with audiences across different regions, bringing her music to diverse listeners. She is quite physically expressive on stage, channeling her nervous energy into performance, which results in a compelling and engaging live experience for her audience.
Lyia Meta has new music in development, continuing to showcase her vocal talents across a variety of musical styles. She is also working on other projects with a more understated, laid-back approach compared to “Raging Halls,” offering listeners a glimpse of what is to come.
