HUNTRX Singer REI AMI Set for Shark Weeks KPop Shark Heroes

KPop Shark Heroes follows Jeong as he adopts "the power of Kpop to transform the perception of sharks in East Asia and across the globe."

When up-and-coming cartoonist Keef Knight has a traumatic run-in with the police, he begins to see the world in an entirely new way.

Shark Week is adding some K pop energy to this year’s festivities.

Before Discovery begins its yearly television event, actor and comedian Ken Jeong has introduced “Om-A-Nom (Shark Week),” described as the first official song created for Shark Week. The release arrives ahead of K-Pop Shark Heroes, an upcoming program examining how K pop could help reshape attitudes toward sharks throughout East Asia and other parts of the world. Discovery’s special combines humor, performances influenced by K pop and informative storytelling.

Grammy nominated musician REI AMI will also make a guest appearance in the special. Audiences may know her as part of the fictional K pop group HUNTR/X from Netflix’s successful animated movie KPop Demon Hunters. Her involvement comes as the film continues attracting fans following its major breakthrough. Alongside providing Rumi’s singing and speaking voice in HUNTR/X, REI AMI has continued developing her own solo music career.

Jeong’s “Om-A-Nom (Shark Week)” creates an unusual connection between K pop and traditional cable television. Discovery says K-Pop Shark Heroes follows Jeong as he uses “the power of K-pop to transform the perception of sharks in East Asia and across the globe.” The program blends his comedic style with music inspired by the worldwide movement before concluding with the premiere of “Om-A-Nom (Shark Week).”

K-Pop Shark Heroes will debut Sunday, July 26, at 8 p.m. ET on Discovery during the network’s annual Shark Week celebration.
