Artist skyve is someone who not only loves listening to all kinds of music, he also loves making all kinds of music. His latest track “eternal time” sounds like an indie rock song at first but transitions into something surprising as the song progresses. Fusing genres like this comes naturally to him and he’s looking forward to showing his listeners how good he is at it.
The track “eternal time” was built on a demo skyve had and through a collaboration with his producer Jordan Lyles, they transformed this demo into something new. As earlier stated, the track sounds like indie rock on the surface but switches to a rap verse from skyve as it goes on. Rap is actually the lane skyve’s previous music was in so the indie rock aspect is what will be most surprising to his listeners.
“This one was much easier to make because we built on the template that was already there. We added guitars, drums and some other things. The goal was to refresh an old project.” he said.
The mood of “eternal time” is upbeat, breezy and light. The goal of the song for skyve was to make something catchy and its atmosphere conveys this effectively. While the lyrics were written with intentionality, he still wants people to feel good when they hear them.
The guitars in “eternal name” are the heart of its indie rock sound and it may be surprising to know that skyve has only been playing guitar for three years. He sticks to the chords he knows but still makes music that pulls people in when they hear them. Interestingly enough, skyve’s inspiration came from watching the characters in the animated Sing movies and seeing the stage presence those characters had inspired him to pursue the same route.
The rap and indie rock fusion within “eternal time” came naturally to skyve because of his musical interests both as a listener and an artist. He enjoys listening to multiple genres as well as making music in multiple genres.
“In this song, we have an indie singing part, a rapping part and then some R&B inspired vocal harmonies in the background. My home base is rapping but I enjoy picking up the guitar and singing too.” he said.
With this route, he knows his audience will often be surprised about what he puts out but he’s confident that it won’t push people away but have the opposite effect and bring even more people into his artistry.
“There’s a difference between being into multiple genres as an artist in a performative way and in a genuine way. Since I’m a smaller artist, I’m not afraid of a large chunk of my fanbase leaving if I try something new. My dad always says ‘If you’re not growing, you’re dying.’ When you’re an artist, changing is sometimes framed as a bad thing.” he said.
Skyve has plans for more music in 2026 including dropping a full album that showcases a range of his musical interests and abilities. He’s looking forward to sharing this with his listeners so they can gain an even larger understanding of his love of music.
“This album will showcase different parts of me. I’ve got some unexpected things planned for it.” he said.
