The Sky’s The Limit For Mic Nickels’ Newest Album, ‘Bars for Days’

NEW YORK – It’s common for musicians to share their life stories with listeners.

NEW YORK – It’s common for musicians to share their life stories with listeners. But Mic Nickels has taken sharing his two decades in the music industry with fans in an autobiography which accompanies his album, “Bars for Days.”

He is best known for his creative boom/bap style. Nickels was the frontman for Nickels and Dime Ops and now is stepping out on his own, opting for forging rhymes and rhythms while adding some contemporary sounds. In his latest release, Nickels showcases his lyrical prowess as he blends genres for music perfection.

Nickels fans hit the jackpot with “Bars for Days” as it is not only a fabulous hip hop album containing 14 tracks, but he’s also offering a book of the same name. In fact, fans who purchase the book “Bars for Days” will find a QR code in the back to stream or download the album. Written during lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic, the narrative is a collection of short stories where he reminisces about working in the industry for more than 20 years. Together, the album and literary collection provide listeners with a pathway to understanding Nickels on a profoundly personal level.

The first single from “Bars for Days” demonstrates Nickels’ unique ability to keep the fun in rap and avoid the darker sides of life. The song “Rappers Don’t Smile” is an upbeat, fun track that examines the phenomenon of the scowling rapper. “For me, hip-hop was meant to be fun,” said Mic Nickels. “It’s a break from the struggle. Somehow over the years, it became the struggle, but I wanted to bring back that feeling of fun.”

The second release from “Bars for Days” is “Sky City,” which encourages fans to take chances and pursue their dreams. In the song’s music video, Nickels takes hip hop to new heights - literally. The video portrays his recent skydiving adventure, where during the tandem dive, he boom baps the song’s lyrics while falling toward the earth.

Using the mantra, go big or go home, “Bars for Days” was recorded and mixed at the world-famous Westlake Studios in Los Angeles. With engineering legend Al Machera overseeing the project, Nickel brought in beatmakers from across the globe, including Grammy award-winning Brandon “Bizzy” Hollemon and boom-bap luminaries such as Colombeyond and Mr. Cord. Blazing collaborations with Method Man, Timbo King, and others cement Nickels in the elite lyrical artists of today.

With “Rappers Don’t Smile” gaining popularity across all streaming platforms, its follow-up single, “Sky City,” drops Dec. 3. The album and accompanying streaming book “Bars for Days” will be released on Dec. 10. Can’t wait until then? Visit https://www.spotmeanickel.com/bars-for-days to pre-order “Bars for Days.”
